Greetings BRAA Members! - May 28, 2023

We had a wonderful luncheon meeting on May 12 th at the Presbyterian Church in Christiansburg. Gerri Young and Matt Gentry gave an excellent presentation on plein air painting. The next luncheon meeting will be our own plein air painting event in Riner on June 9th . More details will be coming soon from Jolene Crafton, our meeting planner.

On May 19th, several BRAA members attended the opening reception at the Chuck Mathena Center in Princeton, WVA. Michele Walter, our VP, received the Award of Excellence in this show. Congratulations, Michele! This exhibit will be on display until June 29th. It is worth the trip!

The annual BRAA Theme Show will be at the Glade Church July 15th toOctober 15th . We are working on the details now. Registration will open soon.

Painting at Police Station.jpeg

In April, BRAA held a paint party at Blacksburg’s new Police Station. This round-robin painting event was such fun! At the end of the party, some members took the canvases home to “finish and refine”. What a difference that made! On May 24th, BRAA presented eight of the party paintings, plus a watercolor piece from Matt Gentry, to the police chief and his staff as a token of appreciation for allowing BRAA to utilize this wonderful room and all the services they provide to the general public! A big thanks to Jolene Grafton for allher hard work behind the scenes to create this event. She drew different views of the police station on all eight canvases so they

would be ready for the event!

We are happy to announce we are being allowed to stay in the Art Space at 318 N. Main, next door to the Hokie House! The framing of new walls to separate us from the rest of the building will be going on next week. Hopefully, we will be able to remain in this space for a good while!

Please check out what members are exhibiting this quarter and in what gallery by clicking here.

On August 25 and 26 Gina Louthian-Stanley, from the Studio School in Roanoke, will teach a workshop on making your own accordion style and bound books/journals.  Space is still available.  For more details and to register visit our Workshops page.

Take care and have a wonderful summer!
