The juror has spoken

It has taken many months to get this close to the 2019 New River Art Juried Biennial...the 15th of its kind. It is exciting to think of the June 13 opening date, reception and awards ceremony. It has been nothing but a pleasure to work with the Moss staff, especially Meggin Hicklin, the exhibition program manager, who has been such an enthusiastic and efficient partner in the process. The choices of the juror, Emily Smith of the 1708 Gallery in Richmond, totaled nearly 70 pieces out of the 389 given to her to consider. This was no small task! The pieces are varied and well wrought, ranging from 2D to 3D to video, created by artists in Blacksburg and beyond. BRAA itself is well represented among the chosen few. All entered artists have been notified, and those invited provided with all the details they must now follow to end up in the galleries of the beautiful Moss Center. We wish all entered artists had been accepted, but it simply isn't possible. The opening reception and awards ceremony will take place June 13 from 5-7 p.m., open to the public. I look forward to this exciting evening!
